ReplyDeletealso, interesting wordplay, perhaps?
DeleteThe Hebrew word that's translated "ransom" for the tabernacle tax (later, Temple Tax)...that word means "atonement"...or, literally, "cover"...
That same word was used back in Genesis 9, when Noah was building the ark: "Make an ark of gopher (cypress?) wood, and coat it inside and out with "atonement"/"cover(ing)".
like I said, perhaps some interesting Hebrew wordplay there.

In the sad tale of the golden calf, we have on full display why even the LORD's called out, set-apart people need instructions on how to live once they've been saved. Also, we find out about the origin of the Levite order.

I think that maybe the 40 days on the mount were a kind of test for the people of Israel. Could they trust God for such a long period of time without a leader? Apparently they could not.
ReplyDeleteLater, in the New Testament we see Jesus living out the Israelites' journey. (killing of the male babies, passing through the Red Sea,(baptism) these are just a few.) The one that I notice here is the 40 days of testing. The Israelites could not pass the test but Jesus could. I think that maybe Jesus tries to show that it is possible to obey our Father. Even when things get difficult.

right...and then he chose his people and told them to "follow him" so he could show them how to do it...and then he commissioned them to show others how to live like he lived and trust him and be faithful to him, too.
