In Numbers 13, Moses tried to get his brother-in-law Hobab to stay on, to sojourn with Israel and be their guide as they traveled to Canaan. (He previously made a similar offer to his father-in-law Jethro back in Ex. 18)
ReplyDeleteWe know about Moses, his character, and his work as the prophet of the LORD and de facto leader of Israel. I think the way Moses deals with them says something about Jethro and Hobab. We obviously can't know for sure based on the limited time we see them in Scripture, but it seems to be more likely than not that these men knew the Most High and served him - we might call them "born again" in today's terms - even though they weren't Israel. There's probably wisdom to be gained here as we look for life application in our reading.
