Chapters 13-14 talk *a lot* about leprosy - not only in people, but also in their clothing/bedding and in their homes. Living in a humid subtropical climate, I can certainly understand mold/mildew, but it's always been kind of strange to read the same (English) word that we associate with what is now referred to as Hansen's disease. How can a house or a robe get leprosy?...
ReplyDelete...then I heard about the concept of *tzara'at*. This isn't typical leprosy; it's a judgement against those whose actions reveal hearts in rebellion against the LORD. (a good example of this is coming in about a week with Moses' sister Miriam)...
Delete...if that's what's being discussed here, it makes more sense. And the need to have a constant involvement of a priest both in the investigation and the recovery might be seen as accountability. It would certainly be harder to hide my sin in myself or in my stuff if this judgement keeps breaking out or wont' go away until I confess, repent, make it right, make a change, etc., etc....
Delete...of course there was (is) still "normal" leprosy - Hansen's disease - but when something like that just can't be shaken, it might be more than genetic or environmental factors, and it seems like the instructions are something like "let's get the LORD's people involved and take a close look at why this is happening."

Forgot to mention something else obvious...
DeleteThere's also the social responsibility aspect: If a person is living in a tent city of 2 million souls, and some kind of plague might be breaking out, the right thing to do is separate the infected until there's no health risk to the entire population. And people would automatically trust the priests' work and integrity - especially right after a few of them were mowed down for not taking their job seriously.

If Moses wrote the Bible today he’d write all these chapters in Leviticus about The Covid? Jesus would have healed a man with Covid? Lol
