It is wild to think back on how God orchestrated this escape. He could have done it, every bit effectively, any number of ways. He purposely led them to the sea though it was not on the way. He hardened Pharoah’s heart such that he pursued them. He let the Egyptians get almost to the Israelites so they could glimpse them and be afraid. He likely allowed some of Israel, certainly Moses, to watch the Egyptians pursuing up the swale of the sea before He released the waters. It’s quite a miracle and one that certainly makes a good story. Maybe that is why, so they could have something so notable and …miraculous…to pass down from generation to generation.
ReplyDeleteI am guilty many times of knowing the Sovreign God of the universe is working and still doing miraculous things but not pointing them out t my kids. He is still going before us and behind us and puts a veil between us and our transgressors, makes our paths on dry ground, and crushes our enemies (restraining hand) but it’s not as marked as what happened in exodus and it’s easy, especially as Americans who have direct deposit and Amazon prime, to forget the daily care, protection, and provision. Why ought you to glorify God? He made me and ‘takes’ care of me.
I like your thinking here, brother. It's true that the LORD continues to miraculously provide for us every day so that we can walk with him and continue the journey. The fact that we're all relatively heathy and safe and well-fed - these are gifts to be celebrated with gratitude. Clean water, food, and safe passage are just as big a deal now as they were in the wilderness back then.
