I probably won't say this right but here goes. Ex 10:1-2 When I encounter the word LORD in this passage I'm reminded of the oldest form of Hebrew where the word picture for our heavenly father literally is: Behold the Father, Behold the Strong Arm.
ReplyDeleteI encourage you to read it again with that substitution.
He did His wonders for us to know He is our Mighty Father!

DeleteHe alone is the ALL-Mighty; there is no other beside him. And he settled the argument pretty convincingly, disarming & destroying the power of the global superpower. It was such a thorough thrashing that Egypt paid the Israelites to leave!

As we read this last night, one of the kids asked if there was a chance for Pharaoh to repent. I thought Shannon had a great response: Yes, he could have repented, but (according to the Bible) that would not have changed what was coming. From Ex 4:21-23 until the deaths of the firstborn here in 12:29, there were things set in motion that were just going to happen.
ReplyDelete...Pharaoh's repentance would not have averted the coming disaster/judgement, but it would have given him the strength to get though it and also prepare him for eternity, which is the big one, right? Even today, we Americans understand crime and punishment, and still believe in jailhouse conversions, etc. They are related, but separate. We can repent and find salvation, peace, and purpose....but that doesn't always save us from the consequences of our actions. Through it all, as Abraham said previously, "Will not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”
